Brewers right-hander Abner Uribe continued his rehab assignment with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Friday night, but there was a twist: Uribe didn’t actually wear a Timber Rattlers uniform.
This weekend, Milwaukee’s High-A affiliate is rebranding as the Wisconsin Brats, honoring German heritage with a special two-day “Bratoberfest” celebration. So, Uribe and his teammates donned eccentric Lederhosen-style uniforms with “Brats” written across the front of the jersey.
The Timber Rattlers celebrate Bratoberfest annually, and, by now, they know how to throw a good party.
Joey Chestnut -- the greatest competitive eater in history -- was this year’s special guest. Chestnut competed against pairs of contestants to consume the “Ultimate Bratoberfest Platter.” He ate 7.5 pounds of brats, cheese curds, sauerkraut and a Bavarian pretzel in less than 10 minutes.
Other special food items available at Neuroscience Group Field include Brat Tots and the Greek Wurst Pita.
The second and final night of Bratoberfest is on tap for Saturday evening, with the first 1,000 fans set to receive a Flying Bratman bobblehead.
