Frazier hits deep blast to support sharp Sale

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- The White Sox lumber company continued producing, Chris Sale pitched like the ace that he is and the South Siders secured their first winning Cactus League record since 2004 with a 6-2 victory over the Rangers Tuesday at Camelback Ranch.
One game still remains on the schedule Wednesday at Goodyear for the White Sox, who stand at 15-12-1. They also play two exhibition games this weekend in San Diego before moving on to Oakland for Opening Day on Monday.

Sale allowed one run on six hits over 5 1/3 innings, giving up that lone tally on Hanser Alberto's homer in the fifth. The southpaw struck out five and didn't issue a walk, with his next trip to the mound being Monday in Oakland as his third Opening Day start.

"I think we all are," said Sale, when asked if he's ready for Opening Day. "It's great to come down here and get your bearings and get your feet underneath you, but I think we're all ready to start the race."
A.J. Griffin started for the Rangers and worked 3 2/3 innings, striking out six and not walking anyone. Griffin was touched up for Todd Frazier's two-run homer in the first, marking the third of the spring for Frazier. Adam Eaton also went deep in the seventh for the White Sox 48th home run, which leads the Majors this spring.
"I felt really good. I felt strong," Griffin said. "I was making quality pitches. They were just being aggressive and putting the ball in play."
Alex Avila, who was mired in a 1-for-18 spring slump, knocked Griffin out of the game in the fourth with a two-out, two-run single on a 3-2 offering. It was Avila's first game since leaving Saturday afternoon's contest with lower back tightness.

Avila was impressed with how Sale looked on the mound.
"He looked really good. Missed the spot on one pitch and that was really it for the day," Avila said. "Other than that, worked his changeup pretty well, Fastballs in and out. Probably wasn't as consistent on the opposite side of the plate, but as the game went on he got better there. His slider looked good."
Up next for the Rangers: Left-hander Cole Hamels pitches for the Rangers at 2:05 p.m. CT Wednesday against the Royals in Surprise (listen on Gameday Audio). The game is starting an hour earlier because it is getaway day as the Rangers head back to Texas. Hamels is making his last start before Opening Day on Monday against the Mariners.
