Twins acquire reliever Nance in trade with Blue Jays

The Twins acquired right-handed reliever Tommy Nance and international signing bonus pool money from the Blue Jays for Minor League catcher Ryan Sprock, the clubs announced on Friday.

Nance, 35, has pitched to a 3.82 ERA through 32 games out of the Toronto bullpen this season. He appeared in 82 games with a 3.22 ERA across parts of the last three seasons with the Blue Jays.

The addition of Nance will bolster a Minnesota bullpen that entered play on Friday with a Major League-worst 5.28 ERA. The Twins (46-48) have won seven of their last eight series to surge within two games of first place in the AL Central.

Nance has also played for the Cubs and Marlins, along with the Blue Jays. He owns a 4.25 ERA in 144 appearances across parts of five Major League seasons.

Nance uses a three-pitch mix -- throwing a sinker, curveball and slider -- and excels at generating swings outside the strike zone, with a 36.4% chase rate that ranks in the 95th percentile of MLB in 2026.

An eighth-round pick in the 2025 Draft, Sprock was hitting .306/.436/.441 in 65 games this season for Single-A Fort Myers before being promoted to High-A Cedar Rapids.
