Here's a look at Thursday’s top Minor League performers from each team's Top 30 Prospects list:
Angels: Sam Bachman, RHP (MLB No. 95), High-A Tri-City
Bachman, the No. 9 overall pick of the 2021 Draft, continued his strong professional debut with four scoreless innings, his longest outing thus far. The Angels’ No. 3 prospect gave up just two hits, struck out three and walked none as he tossed 37 of his 50 pitches for strikes. In his first four starts, the 21-year-old has given up zero runs in three of them, good for a 1.69 ERA with 11 strikeouts, six hits and one walk through his first 10 2/3 Minor League innings. Astros: Shawn Dubin, RHP (No. 12), Triple-A Sugar Land
If Dubin hadn’t already established himself as someone who can rack up the strikeouts, the right-hander left no doubt with his performance Thursday. Not only did he strike out a season-high 10 batters in just 4 1/3 perfect innings, but at one point, he struck out seven straight. Without a doubt, it was the most dominant performance of Dubin’s professional career. Brewers: Korry Howell, OF/INF (No. 15), Double-A Biloxi
Biloxi scored six runs in its win over Rocket City and Howell drove in five of them. The utility man blasted a three-run homer -- his first in Double-A -- and whacked a two-run single in a 2-for-5 performance, giving the 22-year-old a career-high in RBIs and snapping a 25-game stretch without an RBI. D-backs: Tommy Henry, LHP (No. 16), Double-A Amarillo
For the first time all season, Henry tossed a scoreless outing. The southpaw fanned eight over five strong innings, allowing just two hits and one walk as he threw 58 of his 87 pitches for strikes. After giving up a leadoff double and issuing a two-out walk in the second, the 24-year-old finished his night by retiring the next 10 batters in order. Orioles: Kyle Stowers, OF (No. 11), Double-A Bowie
Stowers enjoyed the first multihomer game of his professional career, hitting two home runs and racking up a career-high eight total bases. The outfielder knew that his second homer of the night was a no-doubter, easily clearing the center-field fence. Stowers, who now has 20 home runs this season, has been showing off the power as of late, hitting three homers in his past three games. Indians: Xzavion Curry, RHP (No. 30), High-A Lake County
Curry put together a solid start for Lake County, allowing no runs across 5 1/3 innings with four strikeouts and one walk. The right-hander had to wiggle himself out of a bases-loaded situation in the top of the fourth inning. With runners at every base and two outs, Curry struck out a batter on the payoff pitch, narrowly avoiding walking in a run. Rays: Sandy Gaston, RHP (No. 21), Low-A Charleston
Gaston cleared the five-inning threshold for the first time in his professional career, allowing no runs and striking out five, albeit with four hits and four walks. The 19-year-old had pitched four innings on six previous occasions, including his past three starts entering Thursday, but has finally pitched deep enough in a game to qualify and record his first win as a starter. In 11 games this year (seven starts), Gaston has a 2.12 ERA with 53 strikeouts across 36 2/3 innings. Rays prospect stats »
White Sox: Blake Rutherford, OF (No. 24), Triple-A Charlotte
Rutherford hit two home runs in a single game for the first time as a pro and racked up a career-high 10 total bases, arguably the most explosive night of his career thus far. Rutherford’s second home run of the evening was the more impressive of the two as the outfielder took on dead-center field and won. In his past 10 games, Rutherford has hit four homers, four doubles and posted a 1.008 OPS. Rutherford now has nine home runs this year, eclipsing his previous career-high of seven that he set in 2018 and 2019. White Sox prospect stats »
