GLENDALE, Ariz. -- The top prospect in all of baseball is a bit dinged up.
Yoán Moncada, the highly touted Cuban infielder who saw some Major League time with the Boston Red Sox this year, jammed his left thumb swinging at an inside pitch Friday night in the Arizona Fall League and is expected to be out at least two more days.
Moncada, who went 4-for-19 in eight games with Boston after spending most of the year between Class A Advanced Salem and Double-A Portland, had been playing for the Surprise Saguaros in the Fall League and was doing well, slashing .292/.370/.458 with a home run and three RBIs in 24 at-bats, before the incident Friday night.
Moncada was lifted for a pinch-hitter in that game against the Salt River Rafters and hasn't returned to action since.
"It's been a little sore, but he's supposed to start baseball activity tomorrow," Saguaros manager Carlos Febles said on Tuesday. "So hopefully he'll start playing on Friday."
