Sano exits with sore shin; Garver debuts

MINNEAPOLIS -- Twins slugger Miguel Sanó left Saturday's 5-0 victory over the D-backs with left shin soreness, the team announced.
Sano served as the designated hitter and recorded three plate appearances, including an inning-ending double play in the fourth -- his final at-bat -- in which he didn't fully run out a ground ball. The team plans to do further tests before the series finale with Arizona.
"He's got some lower leg soreness, we tried to protect him with the DH role tonight," Molitor said. "Obviously, it is bothering him, you could see how he ran down first base. So we got him out and we are going to get some tests on him [Sunday] morning and see how he feels."
Molitor said he was made aware of Sano's soreness on Friday. In a 10-3 rout over the D-backs in the opener, Sano hit a pair of massive home runs. According to Statcast™, Sano's two homers traveled an estimated 440 feet and 469 feet, the latter his longest tracked by Statcast™.

In fact, it marked the first time a player had clubbed multiple home runs of at least 440 feet since Sano's teammate Eddie Rosario on June 13.
"He iced it down after the game [Friday] night," Molitor said. "He said he was good to DH, and he's probably still a little sore, because we had to take him out of there. Hopefully we will get some good news that there is nothing serious going down there [Sunday]."
Mitch Garver made his Major League debut, pinch-hitting for Sano in the seventh. Garver swung through a slider from J.J. Hoover to end his first at-bat. Garver was promoted from Triple-A Rochester on Friday after Robbie Grossman (fractured thumb) was placed on the disabled list.
