MINNEAPOLIS -- The Twins began their offseason work on Thursday with a few small housekeeping moves to clear space on their roster.
Minnesota announced that Anthony Banda, Tristan Gray and Aaron Sabato all cleared waivers and will be outrighted off the 40-man roster, making them free agents. That brings Minnesota’s roster down to 43 players, with five players currently still on the 60-day injured list and therefore not counted against the limit.
Several other players will soon become free agents, including Ryan Jeffers, A.J. Minter and Josh Bell.

Banda was the biggest name to be let go on Thursday. He was acquired from the Dodgers in February, and despite a slow start this season he eventually became a key part of the Twins’ late-inning bullpen mix. But he suffered a significant left lat strain that ended his season, and after undergoing surgery on the injury, is likely out until at least July.
The Twins would have the option, if they wished, to try to work out some kind of deal for Banda to return, but with the amount of rehab still ahead of him, it’s not a front-burner item at this time.
Gray, 30, played in 66 games as a utility man for the Twins in 2026. He had some big offensive moments early in the year but saw his playing time wane drastically after slumping at the plate. Sabato, 27, was the Twins’ first-round Draft pick in 2020 and made his Major League debut in September.
