Walker Jenkins can do this all day.
MLB's No. 15 prospect, whose nickname is "Captain America," delivered his second two-homer game of the week in Triple-A St. Paul's 8-5 loss to Columbus at Huntington Park.
Jenkins connected on his 10th long ball for the Saints in the sixth inning. The Twins' top prospect slapped a high sinker from righty Austin Peterson (Guardians) for a 371-foot solo homer the opposite way at 101.5 mph off the bat.
The left-handed-hitting outfielder followed that up with another roundtripper the following frame, turning on a low-and-inside fastball from MLB veteran right-hander Carlos Hernández for a two-run shot. Jenkins pummeled the pitch 405 feet at 108.3 mph off his bat.
The 21-year-old also slugged a pair of homers on a three-RBI night Thursday. In the series finale, the 2023 fifth overall pick went 3-for-3 with two walks and a stolen base.
Jenkins has three career two-homer games, with his first coming against Louisville on Aug. 6.
"The willingness to go in and work and challenge himself and to work through failure in the cage, in the game, those are probably the things that are going to elevate that bit of the power," Double-A Wichita hitting coach Andrew Cresci said of Jenkins last July. "He's built like Captain America. The power is there. The bat speed is there."
Across 67 games this season at Triple-A, Jenkins is slashing .306/.406/.525 with 31 extra-base hits, 48 runs scored, 27 RBIs and 16 stolen bases. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound slugger has also posted an impressive strikeout-to-walk ratio (46:41) out of the top spot in the order.
Jenkins missed more than a month of action early this season after suffering a shoulder joint sprain when he crashed into an outfield fence during a game. But he's continued to showcase an ability to come back from injury and look very much like the plus hitter with plus power the Twins thought they were getting in 2023.
