Two special fans take center stage at the D-backs home opener on March 30
Opening Day is among baseball’s most special traditions and this year’s Home Opener at Chase Field will also shine a spotlight on two extraordinary fans whose stories reflect courage, perseverance and resilience. Together, these moments will help launch the 2026 season in grand fashion, with both honorees receiving personal invitations from Derrick Hall/D-backs President, CEO & General Partner.
Lake Havasu City native Beauden Baumkirchner will throw out the ceremonial first pitch, marking a meaningful milestone in his journey. At just three years old, he developed a rare and aggressive staph infection that led to septic shock and months in intensive care. He underwent more than 20 surgeries, including the amputation of both legs, before returning home to continue his recovery. His MLB Network visit with Challenged Athletes Foundation in early January, which included a FaceTime with Corbin Carroll, caught the organization’s attention and led to this heartwarming invitation. Today, Beauden plays baseball at Lake Havasu Little League using prosthetic legs, continuing to inspire those around him with his determination, resilience and love of the game. His comeback story continues to be told on his Instagram page @BeaudensBlessings.
The National Anthem will be performed by Joe Giacinto, a talented Arizona clarinetist born blind and autistic who has spent nearly a decade mastering his craft. Completely self-taught, Joe learns and performs music entirely by ear and has memorized hundreds of pieces. A video of one of his performances recently gained widespread attention, inspiring this iconic invitation. He dreams of one day performing alongside Andrea Bocelli and continues to build his career one performance at a time, sharing his passion and dedication with every audience.
