Unseen Babe Ruth items set to be auctioned

LAS VEGAS -- Hundreds of personal artifacts and materials relating to Babe Ruth's legendary life and career, many previously unknown to the general public, will be displayed at Yankee Stadium for a high-profile auction event to be held this coming June.
Linda Ruth Tosetti, the Bambino's granddaughter, announced on Tuesday that the Ruth family has consigned with Hunt Auctions to handle the trove of memorabilia.
Included among the treasures are Ruth's hand-stitched hunting gloves, a personalized photo from Lou Gehrig and his "better year than the President" contract from the 1930-31 seasons, plus his game-used size 11 spikes and more.
"My grandfather remains a guiding force in my life today," Tosetti said. "The way he lived his life and its effect on others continues to amaze me every day. For many years, we have cherished the items within his personal collection and have been blessed to represent his legacy through our many family endeavors.
"The decision to share items from his personal collection was made with careful consideration and the intent to further his legacy within a new generation of baseball fans."
The Ruth collection will go to auction on June 15. Additional highlighted items will include Ruth's executed contract from 1935 (Boston Braves), his personal check ledger, signed baseballs and photographs, personal photo albums and a 12-point deer trophy mount that belonged to the slugger.
Also featured is an urn that Ruth received as a gift during a 1934 tour of Japan. The item features a dent where Ruth kicked it in rage following the Dec. 7, 1941, attack of Pearl Harbor.
"We felt it was time to bring these amazing pieces of his life to light," Tosetti said. "There could be no other place to showcase these items than Yankee Stadium and we are also thrilled to be able to benefit related charitable entities through the sale of these items."
