No. 3 Draft pick Lackey draws 2 walks in pro debut at Single-A

Vahn Lackey, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2026 MLB Draft, made his professional debut on Thursday night for Single-A Fort Myers.
Lackey went 0-for-1 and drew two walks. He also stole second base and scored a run in the Mighty Mussels’ 9-3 loss against the Palm Beach Cardinals.
Lackey signed with the Twins on July 22, receiving the third-largest bonus in Draft history via a reported $9,497,500.

Lackey last played on June 1, when Georgia Tech was eliminated from the NCAA Tournament. The 21-year-old catcher slashed .397/.519/.772 with 20 home runs and 15 stolen bases in his junior season with the Yellow Jackets.
Minnesota hosted Lackey at Target Field last Friday, offering him a tour of the facilities and a chance to meet some of the club’s current players.
Lackey is the Twins’ highest Draft pick since they took Royce Lewis with the No. 1 overall selection in 2017.
Lackey wasn’t the only Twins Draft pick to make his professional debut with the Mighty Mussels on Thursday. Including Lackey, five of Minnesota’s Draft picks this season were in the starting lineup. Outfielder Aiden Teel, infielder Colby Turner and infielder Isaiah Lane all recorded a base hit in their first game with the organization.
