Vlad comes up just short in first Hall vote

ARLINGTON -- Ivan Rodriguez is going to the Hall of Fame, but two other notable former Rangers are still on the outside waiting their turn.
Vladimir Guerrero, who was with the Rangers in 2010 when they went to the World Series, came close by earning 317 of 442 ballots cast. But candidates needed to be on 332 ballots to earn 75 percent, and Guerrero fell short at 71.7 percent in his first year on the ballot.
Guerrero was the Rangers' designated hitter for most of 2010 and had another great season at the plate, hitting .300 with 29 home runs, 115 RBIs and a .496 slugging percentage on the way to Texas' American League pennant and World Series appearance.

Sammy Sosa, in his fifth year on the ballot, continues to lag far behind. He received just 36 votes, for 8.6 percent of the vote. Sosa began his career with the Rangers in 1989 and also had one year with them at the end in 2007.
Rodriguez becomes the sixth Hall of Famer who played with the Rangers. The others were Nolan Ryan, Bert Blyleven, Ferguson Jenkins, Gaylord Perry and Rich Gossage.
