Nats make three additions to scouting department

WASHINGTON -- The Nationals made three hires to key roles in their scouting department, the club announced on Wednesday.

Danny Haas was hired as vice president of amateur scouting. He comes to Washington from Arizona, where he was a D-backs special assignment scout from 2019-23. Haas, 47, also worked with the Orioles from 2012-18, including the role of special assistant to the executive vice president of baseball operations from 2015-18, and with the Red Sox from ‘02-11, where he was named their ‘04 Scout of the Year.

Haas was an 18th-round pick of the Red Sox in the 1997 Draft. He played five seasons in their Minor League organization as an outfielder. Haas holds a degree in criminal justice from the University of Louisville.

Brad Ciolek joins the Nationals as the senior director of amateur scouting. He worked the past 12 years in the Orioles scouting department, and he most recently held the role of director of draft operations from 2022-23. Ciolek, 37, was Baltimore’s assistant director of scouting from 2017-19 and scouting administrator from ‘13-16 after joining the organization in ‘11 as a player development intern. He also worked with the Mets from 2007-10.

Ciolek holds a degree in business administration from Seton Hall University and a Master of Business Administration in computer information systems from Colorado State University. He also worked as an analyst for Bloomberg Sports in 2012.

Reed Dunn is a familiar face to the Nationals scouting department. He returns to the team as the assistant director and national crosschecker, amateur scouting after working in the Braves amateur scouting department from 2014-23, where he most recently was the East Coast crosschecker. Dunn, 39, joined the Nats in 2007 as a scouting assistant and held the roles of scouting coordinator and area scout.

Dunn holds a degree in sports management from the University of South Carolina.
