CHICAGO -- Yoán Moncada was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a bone contusion on his right shin prior to the White Sox series opener against the Tigers on Friday at Guaranteed Rate Field.
Moncada, baseball's No. 1 prospect per MLBPipeline.com, reaggravated what he had classified as shin splints when hitting the base wrong at third while scoring a run Thursday.
Moncada's MRI on Friday and a blood test to check for Vitamin D deficiency came back without any cause for concern, but the White Sox still chose the safe course of action. Moncada will be inactive for seven days, and then the team will see how he feels.
"I don't like to be injured, and no one likes to be on the DL," Moncada said through interpreter Billy Russo. "But there is nothing I can do about it. It is the best in this moment for me. I have to rest."
"Honestly, you could see him progressing, both at the plate and in the field," manager Rick Renteria said. "Any injury or any time down for anybody is never a good time, but as far as where he's at, we know he's moving forward in a positive direction. We'll just deal with it and see if we can get him back on track."

Moncada has a .781 OPS in August, which includes a .368 on-base percentage. On the season for the White Sox, he has three home runs and 11 RBIs in 30 games.
Delmonico scratched
Leading up to first pitch on Friday, the White Sox were unaware whether left fielder Nicky Delmonico would be joining Moncada on the shelf. Delmonico was scratched from Friday's lineup with a sprained right wrist.
X-rays showed no structural damage, but Delmonico was sent out for a MRI.
"I can't comment on where he is, in terms of what degree of injury it is, if it's long-lasting," Renteria said. "He took a swing, felt it. Actually, he said it happened in the third at-bat [Thursday].
"He went up for the last at-bat, and he didn't mention anything to us during the game last night. But this morning, he woke up and was uncomfortable."

Delmonico has reached base in 21 of his first 22 games with the White Sox, has reached base multiple times in 11 games and has 15 walks against 14 strikeouts.
Davidson activated
Matt Davidson, sidelined since being hit in the right wrist by a Marcus Stroman pitch on Aug. 1, returned to the White Sox from a one-game injury rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte in Moncada's place. Renteria previously had a longer injury rehab laid out for Davidson, who has been on the disabled list since Aug. 8 (retroactive to Aug. 4), but that plan will be carried out at the big league level.
"Tomorrow you'll probably see him DHing. Then we'll give him a day off maybe, or start him and then a day off. We're just going to have to do it here," Renteria said. "Every team goes through it. There is no, 'Woe is me,' with us. The guys that we insert are going to do their best to do what they're supposed to do, in terms of playing the game."
