White Sox reportedly add Rondon to 'pen mix

The White Sox have reportedly agreed to a Minor League deal with right-handed reliever Bruce Rondón that includes an invitation to Spring Training, a source tells SB Nation's Chris Cotillo.
The club has not confirmed the report.
Rondon, 27, was once considered the Tigers' closer of the future, but he was unable to harness his upper-90s velocity and translate it into results. He posted a 10.91 ERA in 15 2/3 innings with Detroit last season, and he spent much of the campaign in Triple-A, leading the Tigers to non-tender him in December.
Rondon presents an interesting project for the rebuilding White Sox, who have team control of him through at least 2020. Under pitching coach Don Cooper, Chicago has been able to develop many quality relievers from humble beginnings, including most recently Tommy Kahnle and Anthony Swarzak.
Although Rondon seems destined to start the year in Triple-A Charlotte, he had a good bit of success at that level in 2017. Rondon held a 2.70 ERA with 43 strikeouts in 36 2/3 innings (good for a 25.8 percent strikeout rate) but also issued 25 walks.
