PITTSBURGH -- It was a rough Wednesday night all-around for the Dodgers as they let a five-run lead slip away in a 9-8 loss to the Pirates at PNC Park, then announced that three-time All-Star catcher Will Smith will be placed on the 10-day injured list.
Smith missed his fourth consecutive game because of neck stiffness, leaving Dalton Rushing as the club's only healthy catcher.
Los Angeles will also select the contract of catcher Chuckie Robinson from Triple-A Oklahoma City to provide backup. He is expected to join the Dodgers on Thursday in time for the finale of this three-game series against the Pirates, though Rushing will start behind the plate.
The Dodgers have an open spot on their 40-man roster for Robinson’s addition.
Smith is slashing .249/.338/.382 with six home runs in 52 games this season.
