Yadi, Giancarlo collect first RBIs of spring

JUPITER, Fla. -- Cardinals catchers drove in four runs to help the team to its first Grapefruit League victory, a 7-4 win over the Marlins on Sunday at Roger Dean Stadium.
Yadier Molina, who started as St. Louis' designated hitter, capped a four-run second inning against Marlins lefty Adam Conley with a two-run double, his first hit this spring.
The Cardinals also got a pair of RBIs from Eric Fryer, who is the favorite to earn a Major League roster spot as Molina's backup. After his RBI single in the second, Fryer tallied a fourth-inning triple, thanks to a generous scoring decision. He scored the team's fifth run by sliding in safely just ahead of a throw from right fielder Giancarlo Stanton.

Conley allowed four runs on five hits in his spring debut.
"Obviously, nobody wants to go out there and get hit around," Conley said. "My intention is to go out and compete, regardless of what my mission was for the day."
Conley also took a comebacker by Breyvic Valera off his right calf but still made the play for an out. He was fine after being struck.
"Usually, what I like to tell myself is the ball weighs five ounces, so how bad can it hurt, you know?" Conley quipped.

Ahead of him, Dan Straily, making his first appearance with his new team, threw 18 pitches (13 strikes) while working around two singles in a scoreless inning. Junichi Tazawa, also making his Marlins debut, allowed one hit in a scoreless appearance.

Cardinals starter Mike Mayers retired all six batters he faced.
"It was good to get out there again," Mayers said. "It felt good to be back competing, be back out there and not facing my teammates."
Behind him, Brett Cecil made his Cardinals debut with a scoreless inning. Cecil worked around singles by Martín Prado and Christian Yelich.

Stanton capped a two-out rally during a four-run fifth with his first RBI of the spring on a double, which followed back-to-back doubles by Prado and Yelich.

Marlins Up Next: Right-hander José Ureña, in the mix for either a rotation or long-relief spot, gets the Grapefruit League start against the Twins at 1:05 p.m. ET on Monday in Fort Myers. Minnesota will start righty Ervin Santana. Dee Gordon was initially scheduled to make the trip, but the second baseman is dealing with pink eye, and he has been away from camp the past few days. Shortstop Adeiny Hechavarría and Derek Dietrich, scheduled to play first, will make the trip.
Cardinals Up Next: The Cardinals have a pair of split-squad games scheduled for Monday. Manager Mike Matheny will take a group to Fort Myers to face the Red Sox at 12:05 p.m. CT. It can be heard on Gameday Audio. Michael Wacha, the frontrunner for the fifth spot in the rotation, will start that game. Lance Lynn will make his first start since Tommy John surgery in the home game against Washington. First pitch is also 12:05 p.m. CT, and it can be heard on an exclusive webcast.
