Yadi widens lead, 'mates need boost for ASG start

ST. LOUIS -- Yadier Molina remains the leading vote-getter at catcher for the National League in the race to start behind the plate at the 2016 All-Star Game presented by MasterCard. Buster Posey is still in second after the third update of NL vote totals for the 2016 Esurance MLB All-Star Game ballot released Wednesday.
Molina widened his lead of 14,882 votes to 77,287 over Posey. Molina and Posey have combined to win each of the last four and six of the last seven fan elections for the NL at catcher. The Cardinals catcher hit .400 with eight hits, two doubles and two RBIs since the last update on June 8.

Matt Carpenter remained in third place in the race to start at third base. He picked up 154,336 votes and is still trying to catch the Cubs' Kris Bryant in first and the Rockies' Nolan Arenado in second. Both players are over 700,000 votes in front of Carpenter.
Stephen Piscotty grabbed another 155,288 votes to hop over the Mets' Michael Conforto for 11th place among outfielders. Matt Holliday made his debut on the list right behind Piscotty in 12th place with 335,257 votes. He hit .353 with two home runs and five RBIs over the past week.
Fans can cast their votes for starters at MLB.com and all 30 club sites -- on their computers, tablets and smartphones -- exclusively online using the 2016 Esurance MLB All-Star Game Ballot until Thursday, June 30, at 11:59 p.m. ET. Vote up to five times in any 24-hour period for a maximum of 35 times.
