Yanks lose 7 Minor Leaguers in Rule 5 Draft
NEW YORK -- The Yankees had three players selected from their organization in the Major League phase of Thursday's Rule 5 Draft: right-hander Garrett Whitlock, infielder Kyle Holder and right-hander Trevor Stephan.
Whitlock was taken by the Red Sox, Holder by the Phillies and Stephan by the Indians. The Yankees did not make any selections in the Major League phase.

Drafted players are purchased for $100,000 and must spend the entire 2021 season on the selecting club's 26-man roster or be offered back to their original club for $50,000.

Whitlock, 24, was the Yankees' 18th-round selection in the 2017 MLB Draft from the University of Alabama. He has pitched to a 12-8 record and a 2.41 ERA in 42 professional games (38 starts), spending '19 with Double-A Trenton.
Holder, 26, was a first-round selection (30th overall) in the 2015 MLB Draft from the University of San Diego. He was at the Yankees' alternate training site this past year and has a career .264/.317/.350 slash line in 408 Minor League games, playing for Double-A Trenton in '19.
Stephan, 25, was a third-round pick in the 2017 MLB Draft from the University of Arkansas. He has posted a career record of 11-17 with a 3.70 ERA in 55 Minor League games (53 starts).
In the Triple-A phase, the Yankees selected left-hander Matt Krook from the Rays and right-hander Reggie McClain from the Phillies.
Four players were picked from the Yankees in the Triple-A phase. The Rangers selected right-hander Matt Wivinis, the Red Sox selected right-hander Kaleb Ort, the Angels selected catcher Gustavo Campero and the Padres selected outfielder Ben Ruta.
