BOSTON -- The Yankees placed left-hander Ryan Weathers on the paternity list prior to Wednesday’s game against the Red Sox at Fenway Park, recalling right-hander Jake Bird from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to take his place on the roster.

Weathers, 26, was not scheduled to pitch in Boston, with left-hander Max Fried and right-hander Cam Schlittler lined up for the remaining games.

On Sunday, Weathers tossed 7 1/3 scoreless innings in a 7-0 win over the Royals, picking up his first victory in pinstripes. Overall, Weathers is 1-2 with a 3.18 ERA through five starts.

Weathers and his wife, Thayer, announced in December that they were expecting a child. Players on the paternity list can miss up to three games.

Bird began the season on the Opening Day roster. The 30-year-old was optioned to the Minors on April 13 after posting a 1-1 record and a 7.71 ERA in eight relief appearances.
