These are the top tools in the Yankees' farm system

From bat-to-ball ability to speed, arm strength and defensive feel, the Yankees' farm system features prospects flashing loud tools that should give them a chance to impact games at the highest level.

Here’s a look at the Yankees prospects with the best individual tools in the system:

Hit: 55 -- George Lombard, Jr., SS (No. 1/MLB No. 25)

Built on a disciplined approach and a repeatable line-drive type swing, Lombard's best offensive trait is his plus hit tool, which fueled his white-hot start at High-A in 2025. He recognizes pitches well, uses the entire field and seems destined to hit for average, and possesses more strength and raw power than his numbers may indicate thus far. His sound right-handed swing should enable him to tap into more of it as he matures and learns to lift the ball more frequently.

Power: 60 -- Spencer Jones, OF (No. 4/MLB No. 99)

The 24-year-old Jones receives Aaron Judge comps because of his huge size and some of the best power in the Minors, and he's cranked 68 homers in three full Minor League seasons. Jones slugged 35 in 2025, finishing one homer shy of the Minor League lead and among the Minors' leaders in slugging (.571), total bases (250) and extra-base hits (59). Jones’ power doesn’t just stand out in the Yankees’ system. His 94.8 mph average exit velocity last season would have ranked fourth in MLB. His 54.7 percent hard-hit rate would've rank 10th, and his 17.6 percent barrel rate would stand tied for 10th, per Statcast.

Speed: 65 -- Brendan Jones, OF (No. 15)

A plus runner whose speed shows up consistently on both sides of the ball, Jones stole 18 bases without getting caught during his pro debut, and then swiped 51 bags in 60 attempts in 2025 in his first full season. He gets up to top gear quickly, takes aggressive turns and can create opportunities with his legs. Overall, he’s stealing bases at an exceptional 88 percent success rate as a pro.

Honorable mention: SS Roderick Arias

Arm: 60 -- Roderick Arias, SS (No. 20)

Arias has featured one of the best arms in the system since signing as a 16-year-old in 2022 as MLB Pipeline's top prospect of that year's international class. Though his defensive focus has lapsed at times, the arm still plays, strong enough to fit at the hot corner should Arias need to move off shortstop long term. With his strong and accurate arm, he can confidently make throws from multiple angles and can finish plays deep in the hole.

Honorable mention: SS Core Jackson

Field: 60 -- George Lombard Jr.

Given that Lombard's hit tool tops the system, it says something that his defense is actually ahead of his bat at this point. He appears primed to remain at shortstop long term thanks to strong instincts, smooth actions, quick hands and a strong throwing arm. He's also able to cover plenty of ground to both sides, giving him a strong profile as an impact defender no matter what happens at the dish. He made only seven errors in 111 starts last season between High-A and Double-A.
