Yo backs Gsellman with bat, dazzling catch

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Yoenis Céspedes flashed both power and leather, while Matt Adams added to his impressive spring resume Tuesday in the Mets' 3-3 tie with the Cardinals at First Data Field.
Cespedes tripled, singled and scored a run for the Mets, finishing 2-for-3 to wrap up his Grapefruit League with a .396 batting average. The loudest cheers for Cespedes occurred when he leapt near the left-field wall to rob Greg Garcia of extra bases in the fifth.
All of the scoring came on home runs. Adams tagged Mets starter Robert Gsellman for a three-run homer in the top of the fourth, before Lucas Duda hit a three-run shot off Adam Wainwright in the bottom of the frame. The blast was Adams' fifth of Spring Training.
"He's in a great place," Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said of Adams, who played his fourth spring game as a left fielder.

His rotation spot unofficially sealed, Gsellman allowed nothing more than that home run in six innings, striking out six to finish with a 2.31 Grapefruit League ERA. The Mets have one more game scheduled for Wednesday against the Braves, but most of their regular players will not be making that trip.
Though Wainwright allowed only five baserunners in five innings, three of them came around to score, all on Duda's homer. Wainwright finished his spring with a 7.78 ERA, much of that damage coming in a March 17 game against the Mets.
"My stuff was dramatically better," Wainwright said, comparing Tuesday's start to the last one he had in Port St. Lucie, which ended with him allowing 10 earned runs in 1 2/3 innings.

"I think last time, though, more than anything, which led to bad stuff, was mentally I didn't punch in. I didn't punch the timecard that day. I just went out there and threw the ball. And there was no conviction behind anything. I really wanted to work on the conviction."
