ARLINGTON -- Pirates reliever Yohan Ramirez's belt was “too blingy” on Thursday night.
Ramírez had to change belts during his appearance in the eighth inning of the Pirates’ 6-1 loss to the Rangers. Manager Don Kelly doesn’t recall Ramírez wearing the belt in a game before Thursday, and he didn’t get much of an explanation on the uniform violation.
“They just said it was too blingy, I guess, and had him change it,” Kelly said. “We’re going to send it into the league and see what comes back.”
Ramírez retired Josh Smith on a flyout for the first out and then the game was stopped for the belt change. He went on to throw a scoreless frame, including a punchout of veteran Andrew McCutchen.
Ramírez lowered his ERA to 2.16 over 11 appearances this season.
