The Athletics recalled infielder Joey Meneses from Triple-A Las Vegas and placed utility player Zack Gelof on the 10-day injured list with a right knee laceration on Friday.
Meneses returns for his second stint with the A’s this season. He was recalled on June 21 and played in seven games, batting .143 (2-for-14) with two RBIs, one run scored, three walks and two strikeouts. He made appearances at designated hitter, first base and left field. Meneses has spent the majority of the season with the Aviators, where he is hitting .347 with 21 doubles, one triple, 12 home runs and 80 RBIs.
Gelof exited Thursday's 4-1 loss to the Tigers in the third inning after making a sliding catch and colliding with the left-field fence. He was on the 10-day IL from June 25-July 4 with a right hand contusion he suffered in San Francisco when Matt Chapman stepped on his hand at second base, snapping his 24-game hitting streak. Overall on the year, Gelof is batting .273 (62-for-227) with 11 doubles, one triple, 11 home runs, 29 RBI, eight stolen bases, and a .803 OPS.
