A's claim RHP Carlos Ramírez off waivers from Toronto

The Oakland A's have claimed right-handed pitcher Carlos Ramírez from the Toronto Blue Jays.
Ramírez, 27, appeared in two games with Toronto, posting a 3.86 ERA (1 er, 2.1 ip) with 3 strikeouts before being designated for assignment on May 13. He began the season with Triple-A Buffalo before being recalled to Majors from April 29-May 3. With Buffalo, he was 0-1 with 1 save and a 5.40 ERA (5 er, 8.1 ip) with 10 strikeouts in seven relief appearances. 
In parts of two seasons with Toronto, he has a 2.84 ERA (6 er, 19.0 ip) with 17 strikeouts in 14 relief appearances. In eight minor league seasons, including five seasons as a pitcher, he is 9-4 with 21 saves and a 2.57 ERA (46 er, 161.0 ip) with 157 strikeouts in 113 plate appearances. Before becoming a full-time pitcher, in seven seasons at the plate, he hit .225 (252-for-1121) with 150 runs, 54 doubles, 16 triples, 17 home runs and 104 RBI in 364 games in the Toronto system. He was signed by Toronto as an international free agent on March 5, 2009.
