ANGELS ACQUIRE 3B NACHO ALVAREZ JR. FROM ATLANTA
ANAHEIM – The Angels today acquired minor league 3B Nacho Alvarez Jr. from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for LHP Brent Suter.
Alvarez, 23, has batted .236 (34/144) with 22 runs scored, seven doubles, two home runs, 21 RBI and four stolen bases in 37 games for Triple-A Gwinnett this season. Prior to being placed on the minor league injured list, Alvarez batted .254 (15/59) with a .762 OPS in May. Alvarez spent 58 games with the Atlanta Braves in 2025, where he batted .234 (44/188) with 18 runs scored, 12 doubles, two home runs, and 15 RBI. Alvarez also represented Team Mexico in the 2026 World Baseball Classic, where he hit .273 (3/11) with a home run and three runs scored in four games.
A native of Fontana, CA, Alvarez was selected by Atlanta in the fifth round of the 2022 First-Year Player Draft out of Riverside City College (Riverside, CA) and made his Major League debut as a 21-year-old on July 22, 2024.
Suter, 36, pitched to a 1-2 record and 4.12 ERA (63.1 IP – 29 ER) and 55 strikeouts in 41 games (three starts) for the Angels this season. A veteran of 11 Major League seasons, Suter signed a one-year free agent contract with the Angels on February 5, 2026.
