Astros Sign Two to Minor League Contracts

ORLANDO, FL - The Houston Astros have signed catcher Tim Federowicz and right-handed pitcher Matt Ramsey to minor league contracts with invitations to Major League Spring Training. The announcement was made by Astros General Manager Jeff Luhnow.
Federowicz, 30, spent his 2017 season in the Giants organization, including a 13-game stint with the Major League club. He spent most of his year at Triple A Sacramento, hitting .300 (85x283) with nine home runs, 43 RBI and an .829 OPS in 77 games, 73 behind the plate. In his 13-game stint with the Giants, Federowicz went 3x13 (.231) with two of his three hits being home runs. The right-handed hitting catcher has played in the Majors for parts of six seasons, appearing in 119 games for the Dodgers (2011-14), Cubs (2016) and Giants (2017).
Ramsey, 28, pitched at the Double A (48g) and Triple A (5g) levels of the Brewers system in 2017. He was a Southern League All-Star at Double A Biloxi, posting a 3-3 record, a 3.65 ERA (18ER/44.1IP), 27 saves and 58 strikeouts in 48 games. He ranked third in all of minor league baseball in saves, converting 27 in 30 chances. Ramsey was originally a Rays draft pick in 2011 and has since spent time in the Tampa Bay (2012-14), Miami (2014-16) and Milwaukee (2017) organizations.
