Atlanta Braves & St. Louis Cardinals make two-player trade
ATLANTA - The Atlanta Braves and St. Louis Cardinals made a two-player trade today, as the Braves have acquired first baseman Matt Adams and cash considerations in exchange for minor-league infielder Juan Yepez.
Adams, 28, is in his sixth Major League season with the Cardinals and owns a .271 career batting average with 56 home runs and 217 RBI in 486 games played. He is hitting .292 in 31 games this season.
Adams was a 23rd-round draft selection by the Cardinals in 2009 and made his big-league debut in 2012. During his career he has averaged 19 home runs, 49 extra-base hits and 72 RBI per 162 games played. His best offensive season came in 2014, when he played in a career-high 142 games and clubbed 15 homers with a career-best 68 RBI.
Yepez, 19, signed with the Braves organization as a non-drafted free agent in July 2014, out of Caracas, Venezuela. The right-handed hitting infielder compiled a .281 (125-for-445) batting average with 34 doubles, six home runs and 54 RBI in 120 games across three minor league affiliates since the start of the 2015 season. Yepez opened the 2017 campaign at Single-A Rome, where he batted .275 (39-for-142) with 13 doubles, one home run and 15 RBI in 35 games.
