Blue Jays' Josh Donaldson named American League Player of the Week

Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson has been named the American League Player of the Week for the period ending June 19th. The announcement was made earlier today on MLB Network.
Donaldson batted .444 (12-for-27) with 11 runs scored, four doubles, a triple, three home runs and nine RBI over seven games to claim his fourth career AL Player of the Week Award, last winning with the Blue Jays on August 9, 2015. Among AL leaders, Josh finished the period first in runs scored, total bases (27) and extra-base hits (8), tied for first in slugging percentage (1.000), tied for second in doubles, RBI and walks (6), third in on-base percentage (.545) and fifth in batting average.
On Tuesday against the Philadelphia Phillies at the Rogers Centre, Donaldson went 3-for-4 with two doubles to go along with his third career grand slam and second of the season (also April 8th). Additionally, the 2015 AL MVP collected his fourth career five-RBI game and second of the 2016 campaign (also May 27th) and fourth of his career. In Toronto's seriesopener against the Baltimore Orioles on Friday, the Auburn University product delivered a solo homer and two-run triple in the Blue Jays' 13-3 victory over the O's. It was his third round-tripper in four games and his fourth triple of the season, already establishing a career high for three-baggers in a season. With his fourth double of the week in Saturday's tilt against the Orioles, the 48th overall pick in the 2007 MLB Draft extended his hitting streak to 11 games, matching a career high set in 2013. During his torrid streak, Donaldson, a two-time AL All-Star, batted .442 (19-for-43) with five doubles, three triples, four home runs and 16 RBI, while logging multi-hit efforts in four consecutive contests from June 14th-17th. Helped in large part by their slugger's hot week at the plate, the Blue Jays tallied four wins, scored 52 runs and improved their overall record to 39-33.
Other noteworthy performances last week included Josh's teammates Edwin Encarnacion (.381, 9 R, 3 HR, 7 RBI) and Devon Travis (.545, 4 2B, 7 RBI, 1.000 SLG); Justin Upton (5 R, 9 H, 2 HR, 11 RBI) of the Detroit Tigers; Salvador Perez (.483, 7 R, 3 HR, 8 RBI) of the Kansas City Royals; Franklin Gutierrez (.368, 6 R, 3 HR, 7 RBI) of the Seattle Mariners; Didi Gregorius (.417, 6 R, 2 HR, 9 RBI) of the New York Yankees; and Colby Lewis (1-0, 1.00 ERA, 1 CG, 4 SO) of the Texas Rangers.
