Braves agree to terms with reliever Jim Johnson on two-year contract extension

The Atlanta Braves announced today that they have agreed to terms with right-handed pitcher Jim Johnson on a two-year Major League contract for the 2017 and 2018 seasons. Financial terms of the deal were not announced.
Johnson, 33, signed with Atlanta as a free agent last November and has made 64 appearances this season while recording 19 saves in 22 opportunities. He has posted a 3.11 ERA with 66 strikeouts in 63.2 innings pitched.
He previously signed with Atlanta as a free agent prior to the 2015 season and made 49 appearances for the Braves last year, posting nine saves and a 2.25 ERA. He was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers as part of a three-team deal in July 2015 and before returning to Atlanta this season.
Over 11 Major League seasons, Johnson owns a 27-40 record with a 3.62 ERA and 153 saves in 550 games (one start). He has allowed only 37 home runs in 583.2 career innings pitched and his rate of 0.57 homers allowed per nine innings pitched ranks fifth among all active relievers who have worked at least 550 career innings. A 2012 American League All-Star, Johnson led the majors with back-to-back 50-save seasons in 2012 (51) and 2013 (50).
He was originally selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the fifth round of the 2001 draft and has also made Major League appearances with the Orioles, Oakland Athletics, Detroit Tigers and Dodgers.
