Cardinals activate pitcher Luke Gregerson from IL; Tyler O’Neill optioned to Memphis

CHICAGO, Ill., May 4, 2019 – The St. Louis Cardinals announced prior to today’s game in Chicago, that they have activated right-handed pitcher Luke Gregerson (right shoulder impingement) from the 10-day Injured List and optioned outfielder Tyler O’Neill to Memphis (AAA).

Gregerson, 34, who has been on the Injured List since the beginning of the season, recently completed an injury rehabilitation assignment that totaled 11 games pitched at three levels. Gregerson went a combined 0-0 with a 1.64 ERA in his 11 games, allowing just two runs in 11.0 innings, no walks and 10 strikeouts. He appeared in six games with Springfield (AA), three with Palm Beach (High-A) and two with Memphis (AAA). His last appearance came on Sunday (April 28) with Springfield when he worked a scoreless 7th inning.

Gregerson appeared in 17 games for the Cardinals in 2018 and owns a career mark of 35-36 with a 3.10 ERA and 66 saves in 640 games with San Diego (2009-13), Oakland (2014), Houston (2015-17) and St. Louis. He last appeared in a Major League game on July 25, 2018 during an inning of work at Cincinnati.

O’Neill, 23, has played in 23 games with the Cardinals this season batting .263 with a home run and four RBI. The Canadian-born outfielder has made one start and recorded 10 at-bats since returning from the Injured List on April 26 from a right elbow ulnar subluxation.

Gregerson wears uniform no. 44.
