Cubs Recall RHP James Norwood From Triple-A Iowa, Option RHP Rowan Wick to Triple-A Iowa
CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today recalled right-handed pitcher James Norwood from Triple-A Iowa. Right-handed pitcher Rowan Wick was optioned to Triple-A Iowa after yesterday’s game. Norwood will be available for the Cubs this afternoon when they begin their three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds at Wrigley Field.
Norwood, 25, has gone 1-0 with three saves and a 4.95 ERA (11 ER/20.0 IP) in 15 relief outings with Iowa this year. He has struck out 25 batters and walked only seven in 20.0 innings while limiting foes to a .205 batting average against and posting a 1.10 WHIP.
The righthander made his major league debut with the Cubs last year and went 0-1 with a 4.09 ERA (5 ER/11.0 IP) in 11 relief appearances. In 40 appearances between Iowa and Double-A Tennessee last season, Norwood went 2-3 with two saves and a 2.50 ERA (14 ER/50.1 IP) while limiting opponents to a .202 batting average.
Norwood was originally selected by the Cubs in the seventh round of the 2014 Draft out of St. Louis University. Overall, he is 13-15 with 20 saves and a 3.92 ERA (102 ER/234.0 IP) in 153 appearances (15 starts) covering six minor league campaigns.
Wick, 26, has posted no record with one save and a 2.84 ERA (6 ER/19.0 IP) in 13 relief outings with Iowa this year. He allowed one run in one inning of work yesterday vs. Philadelphia.
