D-backs Acquire Avery Owusu-Asiedu From Phillies
The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired OF Avery Owusu-Asiedu from the Philadelphia Phillies for LHP Kyle Backhus. The D-backs’ 40-man roster is at 39.

- In 2025, split time with Single-A Clearwater (58 G) and High-A Jersey Shore (49 G), hitting a combined .258 (91-for-353)/.752 OPS with 16 doubles, 4 triples, 7 homers, 44 RBI, 58 walks and 33 stolen bases in 107 games.
- Began last season with Clearwater and hit .268 (48-for-179)/.785 OPS with 7 doubles, 1 triple, 5 homers, 23 RBI, 30 walks and 16 stolen bases…promoted to High-A in late June and hit .247 (43-for-174)/.717 OPS with 9 doubles, 3 triples, 2 homers, 21 RBI, 28 walks and 17 stolen bases.
- In 2024, his first stint above Rookie level with Clearwater, hit .192 (60-for-312)/.613 OPS with 11 doubles, 2 triples, 9 homers, 27 RBI, 37 walks and 17 stolen bases in 98 games.
- Signed by the Phillies in 2023 as a ninth-round selection out of Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville.
Backhus, 27, spent 5 seasons (2021-25) in the D-backs organization and made his Major League debut in 2025. In 32 games last season, he went 0-3 with 2 saves, a 4.62 ERA (13 ER in 25.1 IP), opponent .283 AVG (28-for-99)/.813 OPS, 8 walks and 22 strikeouts.
