Dodgers Recall Seth Halvorsen, Add Charlie Barnes
LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled right-handed pitcher Seth Halvorsen, added left-handed pitcher Charlie Barnes to the roster, optioned right-handed pitcher Kyle Hurt and designated right-handed pitcher Jonathan Hernández for assignment.
Halvorsen, 26, was acquired on July 20 from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for right-handed pitcher Nick Frasso and outfielder Landyn Vidourek. He pitched in six games for Triple-A Oklahoma City, striking out eight in 6.1 innings without allowing a run. Prior to joining the Dodgers, he appeared in 21 games for the Rockies this year, posting an 0-1 record with a 4.74 ERA. He made 75 appearances for the Rockies in three seasons, going 3-4 with a 4.31 ERA and 66 strikeouts in 71.0 innings. He was drafted in the seventh round of the 2023 First Year Player Draft by the Rockies out of the University of Tennessee.
Barnes, 30, rejoins the team for the fourth time this season, and he is 0-1 with a 6.30 ERA in four appearances for the Dodgers. He has been in the Majors parts of two seasons with the Minnesota Twins (2021), Chicago Cubs (2026) and Dodgers (2026), recording an 0-4 mark with a 6.18 ERA in 51 innings. In six minor league seasons, he owns a 30-26 record with a 3.94 ERA and 403 strikeouts in 456.2 innings. He was a fourth-round draft pick by the Minnesota Twins in the 2017 First Year Player Draft out of the University of Clemson.
Hurt, 28, tossed a scoreless inning yesterday, striking out one against the Diamondbacks. He is 3-1 with a 4.46 ERA this season and 46 strikeouts in 37.1 innings. He has been with the Dodgers for three seasons, compiling a 3.83 ERA with 52 strikeouts in 47.0 innings. The Southern California native was originally drafted by the Marlins in the fifth round of the 2020 First Year Player Draft out of the University of Southern California.
Hernández, 30, tossed two scoreless innings yesterday against the Diamondbacks. He made 15 appearances with the Dodgers, allowing 16 runs in 22.1 innings with 18 strikeouts. He has been in the Major Leagues parts of six seasons with the Texas Rangers (2019-24), Seattle Mariners (2024) and Dodgers (2026), going 13-8 with a 4.57 ERA and 168 strikeouts in 175.1 innings. He was originally signed on January 30, 2013 by the Texas Rangers as a minor league free agent.
