Dodgers Select Cole Irvin
LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers selected the contract of left-handed pitcher Cole Irvin and placed right-handed pitcher Brock Stewart on the injured list with right shoulder discomfort. In order to make room on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers designated right-handed pitcher Chayce McDermott for assignment.
Irvin, 32, made 20 starts for Triple-A Oklahoma City, going 9-6 with a 3.58 ERA. This will be his first Major League assignment since 2024 with the Minnesota Twins. He has been in the Majors parts of six seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies (2019-20), Athletics (2021-22), Baltimore Orioles (2023-24) and Twins, going 28-40 with a 4.54 ERA in 134 games (93 starts). He appeared in four Spring Training games for the Dodgers this season, allowing eight runs over eight innings. He signed a minor league contract with the Dodgers on February 4 and was originally drafted by the Phillies in the fifth round of the 2016 First Year Player Draft out of the University of Oregon.
Stewart, 34, heads to the shelf for the third time this season. He pitched in 14 games for the Dodgers this year, tossing 14.2 innings and striking out 14. He is in his eighth Major League season, spending parts with the Dodgers (2016-19, 2025-), Toronto Blue Jays (2019) and Twins (2023-25) and he is 10-6 with a 4.34 ERA with 204 strikeouts in 201.1 innings. He was originally drafted by the Dodgers in the sixth round of the 2014 First Year Player Draft out of Illinois State University.
