The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has named VICTOR RODRIGUEZ Major League Assistant Hitting Coach.
Rodriguez, 56, has spent the last 23 seasons as a player and coach in the Boston Red Sox organization, including the last five seasons since 2013 as the Assistant Hitting Coach with the Red Sox, who led MLB in runs scored in 2016. The New York, NY native was Boston's Minor League Hitting Coordinator for six seasons (2007-12) following a ten-year stint in the organization as Latin Field Coordinator and MiLB Hitting Coach along various levels of Boston's organization. He played professionally for 19 seasons, 1977-95, and appeared in 17 Major League games with Baltimore (1984) and Minnesota (1989). He was named "Man of the Year" by the BoSox Club in 2014, an annual honor bestowed upon a deserving team member recognizing not only their contribution to the success of the team on the field, but also for their cooperation and efforts in community endeavors.
The addition of Rodriguez rounds out the 2018 Major League coaching staff.
