Joe Amalfitano and Charlie Hough Win Tommy Lasorda I Bleed Dodger Blue Award
LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers today named Charlie Hough and Joe Amalfitano as recipients of the Tommy Lasorda I Bleed Dodger Blue Award, an honor bestowed every year since 2022 to members of the Los Angeles Dodger community who embody the passion, enthusiasm and love for the Dodgers that the Hall of Fame manager possessed. The award will be presented today by Lasorda’s daughter Laura before the Dodgers’ 1:10 p.m. game against the San Francisco Giants, two days before what would have been Lasorda's 99th birthday.
Hough, 78, has spent 46 years in the Dodger organization as a player, coach and special assistant in the Baseball Operations department, dating back to his selection by the franchise in the eighth round of the June 1966 Amateur Draft. Making his MLB debut for Los Angeles in 1970, Hough pitched 799.2 innings in 401 games for Los Angeles with a 3.50 ERA, including 60 saves and a franchise record 204 relief appearances of at least two innings. Retiring from the Majors at age 46 in 1994 with the Marlins, he finished with a 216-216 career record and 2,362 strikeouts across 3,801.1 innings and 858 games, with a 3.75 ERA.
Amalfitano, 92, served 14 seasons as third-base coach on Lasorda’s staff from 1983-96, as well as Dodger senior adviser in baseball operations from 2002-04. Overall, Amalfitano amassed 67 seasons in professional baseball as a Major League player with the New York/San Francisco Giants, Houston Colt .45s and Chicago Cubs (1954-67), manager with the Cubs (1979-81) and front office executive. As a player, Amalfitano collected 418 hits across 10 seasons in the Majors.
The previous winners of the Lasorda award include longtime public relations executive Steve Brener (2025), Hall of Fame broadcaster Jaime Jarrín (2025), former catcher Steve Yeager (2024), longtime Minor League manager John Shoemaker (2023) and former Los Angeles City Councilmember Rosalind Wyman (2022).
