Longoria home runs will support Pet Pal animal shelter
For the sixth consecutive season, every home run hit by Rays third baseman Evan Longoria will benefit Pet Pal Animal Shelter, a no-kill, nonprofit shelter in St. Petersburg. For every home run he hits during the 2017 season, Longoria will join the Rays Baseball Foundation, Ducky's Sports Lounge, the DeBartolo Family Foundation, Kids Artistic Revue Competition and Stepps Towing Service to each donate $100 to the shelter.
Since 2012, Longoria's 128 home runs have generated $61,300 for the shelter. Evan and his wife, Jaime, recently added to their family by adopting Lucy, a Chihuahua and Poodle mix from Pet Pal. Lucy joins Tatum, an eight-year-old rescue Boerboel Mastiff.
"Jaime and I are proud to continue our affiliation with Pet Pal," said Longoria. "We encourage all Rays fans to visit the shelter and support the great work they do by volunteering, donating or adopting."
"Once again Jaime and Evan Longoria have pledged their support to Pet Pal Animal Shelter," said Pet Pal Executive Director Scott Daly. "We are very excited for another record year of finding forever homes for all of our shelter kids. Jaime and Evan bring a fresh perspective to the issue of homeless pets and we are very appreciative of their continuing support."
Pet Pal Animal Shelter is a no-kill nonprofit organization committed to rescuing dogs and cats from animal shelters that may otherwise be euthanized due to time limitations, illness, injuries or lack of socialization and training. Pet Pal is also dedicated to educating the public about the pet overpopulation crisis, the importance of spaying/neutering and responsible pet ownership.
