Major League Baseball Approves Red Sox Wild Card Series Roster Substitution

BOSTON, MA–Major League Baseball has approved a roster substitution for the Boston Red Sox due to an injury sustained by outfielder Roman Anthony. Anthony, who has been diagnosed with a right hand strain, will be replaced on the Wild Card Series roster by infielder Curtis Mead.

In accordance with MLB rules, Anthony is ineligible to participate in the remainder of the Wild Card Series, as well as the American League Division Series if the Red Sox advance. Anthony would be eligible to return for the American League Championship Series.

The updated Red Sox Wild Card Series roster is as follows:

PITCHERS (12): Brayan Bello, Jake Bennett, Aroldis Chapman, Garrett Crochet, Alec Gamboa, Sonny Gray, Erik Miller, Wyatt Olds, Ranger Suarez, Payton Tolle, Greg Weissert, Garrett Whitlock

CATCHERS (2): Adley Rutschman, Connor Wong

INFIELDERS (6): Willson Contreras, Caleb Durbin, Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Curtis Mead, Andruw Monasterio, Trevor Story

OUTFIELDERS (4): Wilyer Abreu, Jarren Duran, Jahmai Jones, Ceddanne Rafaela

INFIELDER/OUTFIELDERS (2): Nate Eaton, Nick Sogard

The Red Sox will play the Yankees in Game 2 of the 2026 American League Wild Card Series tonight at Yankee Stadium beginning at 8:00 p.m. ET. A complete Red Sox Wild Card Series roster is attached.
