Mariners Acquire LHP Josh Simpson from Miami Marlins in Exchange for Cash Considerations
PEORIA, Ariz. – Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Justin Hollander announced today the Mariners have acquired LHP Josh Simpson from the Miami Marlins in exchange for cash considerations. In a corresponding move, RHP Logan Evans was placed on the 60-day Injured List.
The Mariners 40-man roster remains full at 40 players.
Simpson, 28, made 31 relief appearances with Miami in 2025, going 4-2 with 7.34 ERA (25 ER, 30.2 IP), 22 walks and 36 strikeouts. He made his Major League debut on June 21 vs. Atlanta, tossing 2.0 innings.
The 6-foot-2, 190-pound lefty began the 2025 season with Triple-A Jacksonville, posting a 3-1 record with a 3.41 ERA (13 ER, 34.1 IP) with 16 walks and 29 strikeouts.
Simpson was originally drafted by Miami in the 2019 MLB First Year Player Draft out of Columbia University. Over 6 career minor league seasons (2019, ’21-25) in the Marlins organization, he is 13-8 with a 4.33 ERA (109 ER, 226.2 IP) with 112 walks and 318 strikeouts.
Evans, 24, had surgery to reconstruct a torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his right arm on January 23. The UCL reconstruct and internal brace procedure was performed by Dr. Keith Meister in Texas. The estimated recovery time is approximately 12 months.
Evans made his Major League debut with the Mariners in 2025, posting a 6-5 record with a 4.32 ERA (39 ER, 81.1 IP) in 16 games (15 starts). The righty recorded 59 strikeouts compared to 31 walks and was ranked as one of the Mariners’ top pitching prospects heading into his debut season.
Evans was selected by the Mariners in the 12th round of the 2023 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Pittsburgh, also attending Penn State during his collegiate career.
