Mariners Claim Catcher Willie MacIver off Waiver from the Blue Jays
NEW YORK – Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Justin Hollander announced today that the Mariners have claimed catcher Willie MacIver off waivers from the Blue Jays.
The Mariners 40-man roster is now at 38 players.
MacIver, 29, will report to Triple-A Tacoma. In 74 Triple-A games between the Blue Jays and Rangers organizations in 2026, he is batting .253 (68x269) with 37 runs, 16 doubles, 3 triples, 8 home runs, 50 RBI and 5 stolen bases, getting on base at a .342 clip and slugging .424 for an .766 OPS. He has appeared in 32 Major League games, all in 2025, with the Athletics, batting .186 (19x102) with 5 doubles, 3 home runs, 9 RBI and an .576 OPS.
The Pleasant Hill, CA native was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 9th round of the 2018 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Washington. He has spent time in the Rockies (2018-24), Athletics (2025), Rangers (2026) and Blue Jays (2026) organizations, batting .263 (617x2,345) with 347 runs, 131 doubles, 20 triples, 81 home runs, 379 RBI, 84 stolen bases, a .350 OBP and slugging .440 (.789 OPS) in 657 minor league games.
If he appears in an MLB game with the Mariners, he will become the 7th player out of University of Washington to play in a game for the Mariners, joining Austin Voth (2024), Jake Lamb (2022), Braden Bishop (2019-21), Sean White (2007, 2009-10), Sean Spencer (1999) and Mike Blowers (1992-95, 1997 and 1999).
