Mariners Recall INF Colt Emerson from Triple-A Tacoma
SEATTLE – Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Justin Hollander announced today the following roster moves:
- Colt Emerson (#4), INF, recalled from Triple-A Tacoma.
- Brendan Donovan, INF/OF, placed on 10-day Injured List (retroactive to May 16, left groin muscle strain).
Emerson, 20, will make his Major League debut when he first appears in a game. At 20 years and 301 days old, he is the youngest Mariners player to make their Major League debut since Félix Hernández made his Major League debut on Aug. 4, 2005 (19 years, 118 days). He will also be the 2nd youngest player to make their MLB debut this season behind only Konnor Griffin-PIT (19 years old).
The left-handed hitting infielder has appeared in 38 games with Triple-A Tacoma this season, batting .255 (37x145) with 26 runs, 8 doubles, 1 triple, 7 home runs, 26 RBI and 17 walks, reaching base at a .347 clip and slugging .446 for an .837 OPS. Emerson is ranked as the Mariners #1 prospect, and the #6 overall prospect in the Major Leagues, according MLB Pipeline. He is also ranked as the #3 overall prospect according to Baseball America.
Over 262 career minor league games, Emerson is batting .282 (287x1016) with 191 runs, 63 doubles, 8 triples, 29 home runs, 154 RBI, 155 walks and 47 stolen bases, getting on base at a .391 clip, slugging .446 with an .837 OPS. He has appeared primarily at shortstop (226 G), also appearing at third base (20 G) and second base (9 G).
Emerson joins a list of homegrown Mariners players who appear on the Mariners roster, alongside RHP Logan Gilbert, RHP Emerson Hancock, RHP George Kirby, RHP Bryce Miller, RHP Bryan Woo, C Cal Raleigh, INF Cole Young, and OF Julio Rodríguez. Both Raleigh and Rodríguez have also signed contract extensions with the team in recent years.
The left-handed hitting infielder was selected by the Mariners in the 1st round (22nd overall) of the 2023 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of John Glenn High School in New Concord, Ohio. The Ohio native made his professional debut with the Mariners in 2023, combining to hit .374 (34x91) in 24 games between the Rookie ACL Mariners (8 G) and Class-A Modesto (16 G), helping Modesto to a California League championship. On March 31, the Mariners announced that Emerson signed a contract extension through 2033, with a club option through 2034.
Donovan, 29, appeared in 7 games for the Mariners after being reinstated from his first stint on the 10-day Injured List (left groin muscle strain) on May 8. Over 25 games this season, he is batting .274 (23x84) with 9 runs, 4 doubles, 1 triple, 3 home runs, 8 RBI and 11 walks, reaching base a .386 clip with a .839 OPS in 101 plate appearances.
Donovan spent his first 4 seasons (2022-25) with the St. Louis Cardinals and was acquired by Seattle on Feb. 2, 2026 as part of a three-team trade with the Tampa Bay Rays. Defensively, he has appeared exclusively at third base for the Mariners but has also played second base, left field, right field, first base, and shortstop throughout his career. Donovan won a Gold Glove Award in 2022 and made the NL All-Star team in 2025.
In 517 career games between St. Louis (2022-2025) and Seattle (2026-c), he is batting. 282 (521x1849) with 250 runs, 101 doubles, 6 triples, 43 home runs, 210 RBI, 193 walks and 16 stolen bases, reaching base at a .362 clip and slugging .413 for a .775 OPS.
