Marlins acquire three players for Dee Gordon
The Miami Marlins today announced that they have acquired right-handed pitcher Nick Neidert, infielder Christopher Torres, and right-hander Robert Dugger from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for Dee Gordon and international signing bonus pool money. The announcement was made by President of Baseball Operations Michael Hill.
Neidert, 21, was rated as the No. 2 prospect in the Mariners' system, according to MiLB.com. The Lawrenceville, Georgia native spent most of 2017 with Single-A Modesto, where he was named the California League Pitcher of the Year after turning in a 10-3 record and 2.76 ERA (104.1 ip/32 er) in 19 starts. He also made six starts for Double-A Arkansas, and was 11-6, 3.45 (127.2/49) in 25 starts for the season. A second-round selection by the Mariners in 2015, Neidert owns a lifetime record of 18-11 with a 2.87 ERA in 55 starts.
Torres, 19, was rated as the No. 7 prospect in Seattle's system by MiLB.com. A native of Santiago de los Caballero, Dominican Republic, he is a switch-hitting shortstop who appeared in 48 games for short-season Everett, batting .238 (46x193) with eight doubles, six triples, six home runs, 22 RBI, and 13 stolen bases. Torres has appeared in 160 career games since signing with the Mariners as an international free agent in 2015.
Dugger, 22, posted a 6-6 record and 2.75 ERA (117.2/36) in 31 appearances (18 starts) between Single-A Clinton and Modesto. He was named to the Midwest League All-Star team after going 4-1, 2.00 in 22 games (nine starts) with Clinton. The Tucson, Arizona native was an 18th-round selection by Seattle out of Texas Tech in 2016.
Miami now has 39 players on its 40-man roster.
