Mets sign José Bautista

The New York Mets today announced that the club has signed free agent outfielder José Bautista to a one-year major league contract. Bautista will wear #11 and be available for tonight's game vs. Miami. To make room on the 25-man roster, the Mets optioned Phillip Evans to Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League.
Bautista, 37, is a six-time All-Star and three-time Silver Slugger Award winner.
He was signed by Atlanta on April 18 earlier this year and released on May 20. He batted .143 (5-35) with two homers and five RBI in 12 games with the Braves. His OPS against lefthanders was .913.
Bautista has hit 20 or more homers in each year from 2010-2017, including leading the American League with 54 home runs in 2010 and 43 homers in 2011. He is one of only three players in the majors with at least 20 homers in each season since 2010, joining Nelson Cruz and Giancarlo Stanton.
The 6-0, 205-pounder also led the AL in walks in 2011 (132) and 2015 (110).
He hit .203 (119-587) with 27 doubles, 23 homers and 65 RBI in 157 games last year for Toronto.
During his 15-year major league career, Bautista has hit 333 home runs, driven in 932 runs, compiled a .480 slugging percentage and a .361 on-base percentage with the Pirates, Royals, Blue Jays, Rays, Orioles and Braves. He owns a .841 lifetime OPS and a .858 career OPS vs. lefthanders.
