New York Mets Open New, State-of-the-Art Performance Center at Dominican Republic Academy
BOCA CHICA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, April 16, 2026 — The New York Mets today officially opened a newly renovated, state-of-the-art performance center at their Dominican Republic Academy, marking a significant investment in the organization’s player development infrastructure. The Mets have had a presence in the Dominican Republic for several decades, and this milestone project builds on that longstanding commitment to developing elite, homegrown international talent.
The large-scale renovation expands the Academy into a more robust, fully integrated environment where prospects live, train, and grow both on and off the field. Designed to support the daily lives of players and staff, the campus brings together training, recovery, education, dining, and team spaces into a cohesive setting focused on performance, well-being, and personal development. The renovations to this facility were fully funded by the Mets organization.
“Today’s opening marks an essential step in our continued investment in the Dominican Republic and our player development infrastructure,” said David Stearns, President of Baseball Operations. “Our new complex provides our players with the best training, learning, and living environment in baseball, and it reflects Steve and Alex Cohen’s commitment to the Mets’ future. Our new Latin American base will help our players, present and future, get the most out of their abilities.”
The new facilities include a 10,000-square-foot weight room and nutrition bar, 18 suite-style bedrooms with dedicated workspace, two new classrooms, and an expanded training room featuring hot and cold plunge pools. Additional upgrades include a 16,900-square-foot agility field, a 5,200-square-foot open-air batting cage expansion, and a fully renovated locker room. The project also added 12 new player rooms within the existing complex.
Beyond player development, the academy is designed to serve as a resource for the broader Boca Chica community, creating opportunities for family engagement, educational programming, and deeper community connections.
The new performance center at the Dominican Republic Academy sponsored by Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) was designed by JMF Architects and built by Hermida Construction. All branding and graphics were designed by Gensler.
