Oakland A’s giving back to the community during annual A’s Week of Giving

Oakland, Calif. – To celebrate the holiday season and continue to give back to the community, the Oakland A’s are hosting their annual A’s Week of Giving beginning today, Dec. 7, through Friday, Dec. 11. The A’s are surprising their two partner schools and several East Bay organizations with-much needed items throughout the week. The A’s Week of Giving is supported by Gilead Sciences and Northern California Lexus Dealers.

“Normally at this time of year, we are so excited to come together and surprise many wonderful organizations throughout the East Bay during our annual A’s Week of Giving,” said Catherine Aker, A’s Vice President of Communications and Community. “Though we can’t be together this year, it was still crucial that we found a way to spread a little holiday cheer and celebrate these organizations and the work they do.”

Monday, Dec. 7: To start the Week of Giving, the A’s will donate equipment to the future superstars at Oakland Cal Ripken Babe Ruth youth league. Each year, the A’s provide support to 65 leagues and more than 22,000 youth athletes through youth baseball and softball initiatives, including scholarship, uniforms, coaching, skills development workshops, and clinics.

Tuesday, Dec. 8 - Wednesday, Dec. 9: The A’s will continue their Week of Giving by surprising teachers and students at the Club’s two partner schools, Parker Elementary and Prescott Elementary. The A’s and Northern California Lexus Dealers will provide more than 400 students with noise-canceling headphones to help them stay focused and engaged during the school year. The A’s and Gilead Sciences will show their appreciation for our educators by providing nearly 50 teachers with gift cards.

Thursday, Dec. 10 - Friday, Dec. 11: The A’s will also donate care packages with much-needed toiletries, home essentials, and a small gift to 150 residents at East Bay organizations, including Covenant House, Yeah! (Youth Engagement Advocacy Housing), Dream Catchers, CityTeam Oakland, and the Salvation Army.
