Padres sign three players to start international signing period

  SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Padres have opened the 2019-20 International Signing Period with the signings of outfielder **Ismael Mena**, shortstop **Reginald Preciado** and right-handed pitcher **Brayan Medina**. Executive Vice President/General Manager **A.J. Preller** and Director of International Scouting **Chris Kemp** made the announcement.

       Mena, 16, is from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and was ranked 15th on MLB.com’s Top 30 International Prospect List. The 6-3, 185-pound left-handed hitting outfielder is regarded as a five-tool prospect with an advanced defensive skill set combined with a knack for getting on-base, elite speed and power potential.

The 16-year-old Preciado is considered the best prospect out of Panama in this year’s class and was ranked 22nd on MLB.com’s Top 30 International Prospect List. The 6-4, 180-pound switch-hitting shortstop helped lead Panama to a second-place finish in the 2018 WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup, earning All-World Team honors after hitting a team-best .393 (11-for-28) with three doubles, nine RBI and five runs scored.

Medina, 16, is considered the top pitching prospect out of Venezuela in this year’s class and has a fastball that sits in the 93-97 mph range. The 6-2, 180-pound right-hander was ranked 19th on MLB.com’s Top 30 International Prospect List.
