Paul Goldschmidt and Zack Greinke win NL Gold Glove Awards

PHOENIX - Arizona Diamondbacks 1B Paul Goldschmidt and RHP Zack Greinke have been named winners of the 2017 National League Rawlings Gold Glove Award®, as announced by Rawlings Sporting Goods Company, Inc. The award recognizes the best defensive players at their respective positions as voted by Major League Baseball managers and coaches.
Goldschmidt, 30, is the first D-back to win 3 Gold Gloves after also garnering the award in 2013 and '15. He tied for second in the Major Leagues at first base with 10 defensive runs saved (also: Carlos Santana and Mitch Moreland), trailing only Joey Votto (11), and ranked third in the NL at his position with a .997 fielding percentage (4 E in 1,361 TC).
Goldschmidt is the seventh first baseman to earn both All-Star and Gold Glove honors in the same season 3 or more times in their career (also: Steve Garvey, Todd Helton, Keith Hernandez, Don Mattingly, Eddie Murray and Bill White).
Greinke, 34, won his fourth consecutive Gold Glove Award, becoming the fourth NL pitcher to garner the honor 4 years in a row since the award's inception in 1959, joining Bobby Shantz (1961-64), Bob Gibson (1965-73) and Greg Maddux (1990-2002, '04-08).
Greinke tied for the Major League-lead with a 1.000 fielding percentage, while his 56 total chances were the most by a NL pitcher without an error since Adam Wainwright's 61 in 2013. Greinke also was 1 of 2 pitchers in the Majors with a 1.000 fielding percentage and at least 200.0 innings (also: Chris Sale).
Additionally, Greinke was the fifth pitcher in Major League history to win multiple Gold Glove Awards with more than 1 team [full seasons with teams only]: Jim Kaat (Minnesota/Chicago-AL/Philadelphia), Mark Langston (Seattle/California), Maddux (Chicago-NL/Atlanta) and Mike Mussina (Baltimore/New York-AL).
Goldschmidt and Greinke will have an opportunity for further recognition with the Rawlings Platinum Glove Award fan vote, which allows fans across the country to vote for the best defender in each league. Voting will end on rawlings.com on Thursday, November 9 at 8:00 p.m. Fans can only select 1 player among the 2017 Rawlings Gold Glove Award winners to take home the "best of the best" honor.
