Pirates 2017 parking and traffic information
The Pittsburgh Pirates would like to make fans aware of several PennDOT traffic projects and lane closures around the greater Pittsburgh area that may affect travel to and from PNC Park on some game days. Pirates fans affected are advised to allow for additional time when coming to and leaving PNC Park.
Around the North Shore, fans will notice the 279 North (Parkway North) High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes will be closed beginning today, Monday, April 10, and will remain closed thru August.
PennDOT reports single-lane restrictions will occur in each direction on I-279 in various locations between the Fort Duquesne Bridge and the Camp Horne Road (Exit 8) interchange this week. Lane restrictions are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Sunday, April 10-16.
The I-279 Parkway North Improvement Project includes concrete patching and overlay, ramp repairs, lighting improvements, HOV repairs, and more, from the North Side to the Camp Horne Road exit.
In addition, 65 North will continue to be open to one lane from the North Side's Chateau Street ramp to the McKees Rocks Bridge.
TRAFFIC TIPS
- Commuters and fans who can are encouraged to ride public transit on game days.
- The Pirates strongly encourage fans, especially families, to arrive as early as possible or find alternate parking in the Golden Triangle in one of the seven Pittsburgh Parking Authority Garages for $5.00 and take advantage of the free "T" service or enjoy the walk across the Clemente Bridge.
- FREE "T" SERVICE is offered by the Port Authority from four Golden Triangle stations, as well as the Allegheny Station outside of Heinz Field, to the North Side Station just outside of PNC Park's Peoples Home Plate Gate.
- Alternate traffic routes to North I-279 from the North Shore are available via North Avenue or Madison Avenue.
- Each game day, once the Clemente Bridge is open to vehicular traffic (25-40 minutes following the final out, depending on attendance), Federal Street to Fort Duquesne Boulevard will be an available alternate route exiting the North Shore.
- The Pirates strongly encourage all fans to download the iPhone "ParkPGH" app or visit m.parkpgh.org on mobile to check for downtown parking space availability throughout the season.
