Pirates Claim Right-Handed Pitcher Dugan Darnell Off Waivers From Colorado

The Pittsburgh Pirates today claimed right-handed pitcher Dugan Darnell off waivers from the Colorado Rockies and transferred him to the 60-day injured list.

The 28-year-old Darnell began the 2025 season with Triple-A Albuquerque, where he went 5-2 with one save, a 3.19 ERA (53.2ip/19er), 63 strikeouts and a .216 batting average against in 35 appearances (one start).

Darnell made his Major League debut on August 1 at Coors Field, tossing 2.0 scoreless innings while also earning the win in Colorado’s 17-16 walkoff against the Pirates.

Darnell went 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA (11.2ip/5er) in nine outings with the Rockies in 2025 before being placed on the 15-day injured list with left hip inflammation on August 22 (he was then transferred to the 60-day injured list on August 24).
